Modes and Channels

White colored light can be created by mixing rainbow colors together (prism splits the white colored light into variety of color components for demonstrating close connection between the color and light). RGB that is Red, Green and Blue, mixing of these three colors only results in the formation of all rainbow colors. RGB are recognized as primary colors of light with varying amounts. Use of basic principle of science can help in capturing and storing all color variation, existing in our present world of creative colors, in the 3 distinct components of the digital imaging file. Component parts in this are Red, Green and Blue itself called as Channels, available along with the layer section. RGB image is the one that stores color data by using this process. RGB is the common type or default ‘Image Mode’.
RGB channels are the most important components and are often recognized as important backbones of the software. Secondary channels are CMYK, Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black.

Information can be seen in the channels as per convenience that is with the color or without it. Go to Photoshop / Edit > Preference > Display and Cursors. Looking at the information without color within the channel is recommended for beneficial result. This should be while editing for post production is conducted for understanding about the things going on and color is an additional advantage.
